The combination of the Everest base camp trek and island peak climbing creates a very exciting and adventurous trek. In this trek, we reach up to the base camp of Mt. Everest and climb island peak (6,189 m). It is a fully challenging trek. Island peak is known as Imja Tse gives a look of Island in a sea of ice from Dingboche. This is the main reason for this name and it was given by Eric Shipton in 1952. It is surrounded by Lhotse and Lhotse Shar Glaciers. You need to have the full experience of trekking. You should know the method of using professional tools. The trend of combining two treks is running now a day.
The adventurous trek to Everest Base Camp and Island peak start with a scenic flight to Lukla. We all know Lukla is the main gateway of the Everest region. Arriving at Lukla we walk to our destination like other crew members. At first, we moved to Everest Base Camp. Most of the trekkers are well known about it. So I cannot give word for its beauty. In this section, we will hike to Kala Patthar (black stone). It is the best viewpoint of Everest region. Finishing in this section we then start our climb to Island peak. It is near EBC. It will be so much interesting to climb this peak. We just need to be careful about the rough trial as it is hard to climb. Climbing Island peak our destination have finished. Finally, we will have a flight back to Kathmandu which will end our trek.
Our average hiking per day will be around 5 to 6 hours and our summit reaching day goes only for a long day. Everest base camp and Island peak climbing will surely make us happy. Detail Itinerary
Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu airport [1345m/4411ft] and transfer to Hotel.
Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport our representatives from Everest Trekking Routes Pvt. Ttd. will welcome you. He/she will asset you and transfer you to the hotel for your overnight.
Day 2: Kathmandu Cultural Tour
Today, you will do a day tour in Kathmandu valley. In morning time you will visit Pashupatinath (oldest and holy Hindu temple), Bauddhanath (Buddhist temple is known as little Tibet), and Swayambhunath (monkey temple). Finishing this we return for lunch. After lunch, you will visit Kathmandu durbar square and Patan Durbar square. In Kathmandu durbar square you will visit Kumari temple (temple of the living goddess).
Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla [2800m/9184m] [35 min flight] & Trek to Phakding [2640m/8659ft] [3-4 hrs Trek]
We begin our Everest Base Camp via Lobuche Peak Climbing trek with an exciting morning flight to Lukla. It will offer us pleasures view of snowy mountain peaks during our flight. Within 35 to 40 minutes we land on Lukla, pack our baggage start walking to Phakding. We walk through Sherpa Settlements Cheplung, Thado Koshi, and Ghat. Here we get an incredible glimpse of east part of Thamserku peak and Khumbila peak. Viewing all this we reach Phakding for our night.
Day 04: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar [3440m/11283ft] [5-6 hrs Trek]
Stretching our self after the first-day walk we continue our walk in the cool morning through Benkar, Chumoa, Monjo villages. We pass through pine forest aside the Dudhkoshi River valley. In today’s walk, we leave last village Jorsale and take final steep to Namche Bazaar. This is the main gateway and luxury town in Everest region. Here we stay an extra night for acclimatization.
Day 05: Acclimatization and Exploration day at Namche Bazaar.
Namche Bazaar is an ideal place. We walk around whole Namche valley. At first, we visit the museum and headquarters of the national park and have a good overview of Mount Everest including Lhotse, Nuptse, Amadablam, Konde, Kongregate and other ranges. Having lunch we also hike around 400 m to Everest View hotel. From here we get the best viewpoint. We enjoy all this with tea and some cookies. Lastly, we return back to Namche Bazaar for our night.
Day 06: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tyangboche [3867m/12683ft] [5-6 hrs Trek]
After resting we gradually pass around National Park Headquarter. It is just above the ridges over Dudhkoshi Valley. We also pass Kyanjuma gradually downhill at riverside spot Phunki. Then we climb to Monastery land Tengboche. It is blessed around the panoramic views of Mt. Everest, Thamserku, Amadablam, Nuptse-Lhotse ranges and snow peak Himalayas. In around 3 o'clock we visit a monastery for Buddhist religious ceremony.
Day 07: Trek from Tyangboche to Dingboche [4260m/13972ft] [5-6 hrs Trek]
In continuing our trek from the monastery we slowly descend through a forest of rhododendrons, confer and lush of birch. We get fantastic admired views of Lhotse, Amadablam, and Everest to Imja valley. We cross Imja Khola and take upper Pangboche village. From here we get closet Himalayan Vista views. Then we ascend Somare and take a short tea break and continue to Dingboche valley. To reach here we need to cross Lobuje River to Imja river valley. This settlement is the last Sherpa settlement of picturesque village.
Day 08: Rest day at Dingboche for acclimatization.
Following the suggestion of the expert, we accumulate in Dingboche before moving ahead to Everest base camp. It’s because as we need to walk in high altitude and we are not favorable with this climatic condition. In term of accumulating we climb steep ridge called Nangkar Tshang peak. From here we get the best viewpoint of Lhotse Shar, Island Peak, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Chhopolu, and Lhotse the six tallest peaks of the world.
Day 09: Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche [4930m/16170ft] [5-6 hrs Trek]
Our today’s destination is Lobuje. We follow the trial of Thukla take a gradual ascent after the ridge and steep climb to the top of the ridge. It is filled with mountain prayer flags and memorials stones for climbers. It is of those who lost their lives on climbing Mt.Everest. They face several great views including Lingtren, Khumbutse, Mahalangur Himal, Pumori and across the Khumbu glacier. Nuptse looks more shirkers from here. We walk slowly resting and drink enough water due to higher windy into thin air and desert land.
Day 10: Trek to Everest Base Camp [5380m] via Gorakshep [5180m] and back to Gorakshep [6-7 hrs Trek]
We need to walk long day up/down on a glacier rock path. Eating something we continue to Everest base camp. We follow Khumbu glacier and Khumbu icefall on touching distance. We feel tired after just close to Everest base camp. From the base camp, we get stunning beautiful amazing views of the west ridge of Everest, Nuptse, Kbumbutse, and Pumori. After a few minutes, we can enjoy the views with some snicker bars. We take some beautiful shots on camera and take back to Gorakshep for overnight.
Day 11: Trek to Kala Patthar [5545m] & trek back to Lobuche [4-5 hrs Trek]
Waking up the early morning we climb to Kala Pathar. It is our final destination. As soon as light get outside on cold temperature, we continue ascent after having a hot cup of tea or coffee. It takes around two/three hours to reach the top and backward 40 minutes. It depends upon physical condition. Kala Pathar is one of the best viewpoints to overview Mt Everest. We can also see south cool between Lhotse and Everest. It will become reality after achieving your goal. Finishing this we trek down to Lobuche.
Day 12: Trek from Lobuche to Dingboche [4-5 hrs Trek]
Finishing our EBC side we move toward Dingboche. Again we trek back to Dingboche. We walk through Dugla from the same path. It will be easy in walking through the same path as we are familiar a few days ago. Dingboche is the starting point to climb Island Peak. We reach a bit early at Dingboche for our night.
Day 13: Trek from Dingboche to Island Peak Base Camp [5087m] [6-7 hrs Trek]
Now it’s time to head ahead to Island peak base camp. We follow gradually ascending trail. It will be rough and zigzag. Having good effort we will be rewarded with panoramic views of Mt. Ama Dablam (6812 m), Mt. Lhotse (8501 m), Mt. Nuptse (7879 m), Island Peak (6189 m) and many others peaks. Here we make camp our self for the night.
Day 14: Island Peak summit [6189m] & Back to Base Camp [9-10 hrs climb]
Today we start quite early than other days. We gear up for the physically challenging as we need to be on the top of Island peak. We head ahead with all our gears fully equipped. Reaching on the top we can enjoy the charismatic views of Mt. Lhotse (8501 m), Mt. Makalu (8475 m), Lhotse Middle Peak (8410 m), Lhotse Shar (8383 m), Mt. Nuptse (7879 m), Mt. Baruntse (7129 m) and many other high peaks. We spend some moment here and capture this moment on camera. Like this, we return back to Base Camp to stay overnight.
Day 15: Trek from Island Peak Base Camp to Dingboche [5-6 hrs Trek]
We have achieved adventurous and challenging Island Peak climbing and Everest base camp trek. Now it’s time to return back. We return back to the same path as we have moved ahead. It will be an easy walk. We get the same view from a different angle. It will be so much impressive in watching them.
Day 16: Trek from Dingboche to Namche Bazaar [6-7 hrs Trek]
From Dingboche, we almost get the downhill track up to Namche Bazaar. This is the busiest trail in Everest region. From here everyone chooses their destination. Crossing the bridge at Phungitenga we almost reach Namche. This is a very scenic walk until reach Namche Bazaar to stay overnight.
Day 17: Trek from Namche to Lukla [5-6 hrs Trek]
Today is our last walk. We will have breakfast and continue downhill to Lukla. We cross several suspension bridges and monasteries. We will feel very sore on legs and knees after descending around to Lukla 2800m. Reaching on Lukla we make confirmation of our flight, take a hot shower and start final trek celebration.
Day 18: Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu
We will take an early morning flight to Kathmandu. It will take about 35 to 40 minutes. We can enjoy the beautiful scenery surrounding the plane. Reaching on Kathmandu, you can do last minute shopping in Kathmandu. At night we celebrate Farewell Dinner together with the trekking team.
Day 19: Transfer to International Airport for your final departure.
Now it’s time to say goodbye to the Kathmandu. Your journey in Nepal comes to an end today. You are transferred to the airport for your returning flight. Have a safe journey. Hope you will return back to Nepal again.
